Free books for HMS Heroes!
That’s right – we’re giving every Hero in Plymouth and North Yorkshire a free book.
Since we found out about the fantastic HMS Heroes groups springing up all over the country, what great friends they are, and how supportive they are of one another, we have wanted to give them something special as part of Reading Force.
We have been lucky enough to receive a grant from the Siobhan Dowd Trust to buy and give books to HMS Heroes in Plymouth and North Yorkshire who are doing Reading Force. (Heroes or group leaders can email us and we’ll send an order form.)
The Siobhan Dowd Trust works to bring the pleasures of books and reading to young people. We were given the award because the trustees love that Reading Force encourages families and friends to share and talk about books.
We want Heroes who are taking part in Reading Force to have brilliant and inspiring books, so we’ve put together a list of awesome books for Heroes of all ages to choose from. Most of the books are hot new releases, so you probably won’t have seen them at school or in your library yet.
For laughs we’ve included Jeff Kinney’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Ugly Truth, David Walliams’ Gangsta Granny, and Liz Pichon’s brilliant Tom Gates: Genius Ideas (Mostly).
Coming of age stories and stories of great friendships include C.J. Flood’s Infinite Sky, David Shelton’s award winning A Boy and a Bear in a Boat, Rachel Carter’s Ethan’s Voice, and Gill Lewis’ White Dolphin.
For young adults we’ve got the best fantasy picks, Marcus Sedgewick’s Midwinterblood and Sarah J Mass’ addictive Crown of Midnight.
