Why Running the London Marathon Was a Dream Come True

//Why Running the London Marathon Was a Dream Come True

How running in aid of Reading Force made the journey even more meaningful for Becca Clark.

For as long as I can remember, the idea of running the London Marathon has sparkled at the back of my mind like a distant, glittering finish line. I’ve watched the event on TV every April, marvelling at the thousands who pounded the city’s pavements with such resolve and heart, secretly hoping one day I’d be among them. This year, that dream finally came true—and the experience meant more to me than I ever could have imagined.

From the moment I secured my spot, training took over my life. Early morning runs through drizzle-soaked streets and long Friday sessions became routine. But whenever the going got tough, I reminded myself why I was running—not just for personal achievement, but in aid of Reading Force. Supporting this brilliant charity, which helps forces families bond through shared reading, added a deeper purpose to every mile I logged. I’ve always believed in the power of stories to unite and heal, and knowing my fundraising efforts would make a tangible difference made each setback easier to overcome.

The atmosphere on the day itself was nothing short of electric. London came alive with cheers, banners, and strangers offering words of encouragement. Passing iconic landmarks like Tower Bridge and Buckingham Palace, I felt a surge of pride and gratitude—not only for making it this far, but for the opportunity to run on behalf of Reading Force. The support from my family, friends, and fellow runners was overwhelming. Each time I saw Alison or heard someone mention the charity, it lifted my spirits and refocused me on the reason behind my race.

Crossing the finish line was a moment I’ll treasure forever. Exhausted but elated, I realised that the marathon wasn’t just about physical endurance—it was about commitment, community, and making a positive impact. Exactly what Reading Force stands for. It proved that when we chase our dreams for a cause greater than ourselves, every step is filled with meaning.
