Project Description

Michael Edmonds is in the RAF. He was at home with his family when Reading Force 2012 launched, and his two daughters decided the family would read Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney.

Before they had finished the book Michael was posted to Afghanistan. They read the last part of the book together over Skype. The sisters said “It was difficult to find the time because Dad had to work a lot of shifts but it was great to be able to talk about it with him and he really liked it.”

The two sisters and their mum, Marie, completed the scrapbook at home, filling it with their responses to the book. “Reading Force worked well in our family because we all took turns reading and it was great spending so much time together.”

The family’s scrapbook won one of the top prizes in the 2012 Reading Force Scrapbook Competition – to watch a celebrity photo shoot with Hello! Magazine. Michael was home the week of the photo shoot, so the whole family got to enjoy their prize together. Marie says the girls still talk about the book and their prize.
