Neil’s cycling challenge from Land’s End to John o’Groats

“To mark the tenth anniversary, of what is now a registered charity, meeting the needs of Forces families worldwide, I am delighted to be raising money for Reading Force. I’ve twice completed Ride London for the same cause, but this time am planning on going much further!”   Neil Baverstock

Neil has raised money for Reading Force before when he completed Ride London – twice! Now he, and his friend Derek, are taking his fundraising to an epic new level and peddling from Land’s End to John o’Groats.

They are setting off on this adventure on 14th August and we’ll be posting updates on their route, the highs and lows of cycling in the British summer. They are aiming to arrive in John o’Groats after 973 miles in 16 days on Sunday 29th August.

Neil’s second-in-command is his wife, Alison (founder of Reading Force), and she will be making sure their snack bags stay full and legs are rested on this mammoth ride.

Follow Alison’s stories of what it’s like to be the back-up and support here, as she reports back with a daily MAMILgram (that’s Middle-Aged-Men-In-Lycra):

Follow Neil and Derek on their challenge

Having always wanted to take on this challenge, Neil decided to do so to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Reading Force. The initiative was launched in Aldershot in 2011, home of the British Army, when Neil and his family were posted there. He has watched Reading Force grow, become a registered charity, and expand to reach families all over the UK and overseas.

Reading Force are determined to keep their service free for ALL serving and ex-serving families, and fundraising is therefore important.

Please support Neil on his mega challenge by making a donation – every £ is a huge encouragement and will make a difference to Reading Force.

Derek is kindly sharing the money he raises from the ride between Reading Force and a charity close to his heart, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, which is committed to eradicating type 1 diabetes.

Wishing Neil and Derek the very best of luck!!!
