Our new Individual Reading Record is an ideal resource for adults. It is available free of charge, like all Reading Force resources, to any individual or family with a military connection.
The 16pp reading record offers users the chance to keep track of what they have read, and to note down any thoughts they had while reading and afterwards. Carefully put together, through consultation with veterans in Northern Ireland, it offers space for reflection on titles read – and the option to get involved in the discussion of reading through joining with others. The Record includes information on how to join a Reading Force Book Club – which are available online and in person.
The Record was trialled with veterans and feedback included:
‘It helped me organise my thoughts and prompted me to recall some things, so it is very useful.’
‘It was good having the questions to aid the person completing the boxes. I like the format as it has good prompts to help express thoughts about each book.’
‘Since joining a book club I have read more than I did before and I noticed my speaking has got better. I don’t know if that is due to the reading or knowing I’m going to be giving my view on the book to the group.’
‘Thanks for this, I enjoyed filling it in – gave me a good sense of having done something.’
