Project Description
John Logie Baird School in Helensburgh, Argyll and Bute, launched Reading Force with an afternoon tea for Navy families and a visit from author Janis Mackay. Then children were given the opportunity to chat about the scrapbooks and what they were reading.
“We had a termly picnic lunch for the children who were doing Reading Force at home. They’d bring along their scrapbooks and speak about what they were doing in them, at home with their family. They would have a talk through about anything that was worrying them.
From the point of view of the Service children, although we’ve got quite a high percentage of Service children, sometimes the children don’t realise who the other Service children are. Reading Force made them aware of other children in the same position, and who they could have a chat with and who would understand the emotional issues they were dealing with.”
